5 SIMPLE TIPS TO LOOK AFTER YOUR JEWELLERY - MERAZI LONDON

5 SIMPLE TIPS TO LOOK AFTER YOUR JEWELLERY

 flat bangle gold

Gold earrings, gold necklaces, rings, silver chains, and rose gold necklaces... Let's not forget beautifully coloured gemstones such as malachite, turquoise, opal, amazonite and many more... We all love them. They are precious and they add a classy chic look to our style. But lets face it, it's easy for them to tangle and get interlocked in a matter of seconds. We all know detangling our jewellery is a Sunday task of its own. But the good news is, it is perfectly possible to avoid this from happening. You can totally save time and wear your sleek jewellery for an enjoyable day! Here are some tricks.

1. Give them space

Always store your jewellery pieces individually, preferably in your M E R A Z I soft-lined box so that they don’t rub together, scratch or tangle. Gemstones, especially, tend to knock against one another. It is best to store them separately. Also remember to keep your chains fastened so they don’t become tangled.

2. Avoid tarnishing

Take care to avoid extreme humidity or heat as this may cause tarnishing. Yes, just like a high-end authentic leather bag, real jewellery can change colour because it is the nature of authentic sterling silver or gold. Your fine jewellery maker will coat the sterling silver with high quality rhodium to stop this from happening. When it comes to gold, a certain percentage of silver and copper will be added to gold in order to create a more pastel, soft and stylish colour of gold so you can enjoy it without it looking extremely “yellowish, orangey”, we may say. It is not possible to find jewellery made of entirely from pure 24ct gold as it would be, well, too soft and fragile to make or wear. Silver and copper will always be added to pure gold to make it durable and wearable. Certainly becoming a fine jewellery expert here, huh…

3. Cleaning keeps it shiny

Like all fine things, fine jewellery requires some love and care to be looked after. You can occasionally clean your authentic jewellery to maintain shine and keep oxidation at bay. And it is this simple:
  • Soak your jewellery for ten minutes in a bowl of warm water with a few drops of washing-up liquid - yes Fairy does magic everywhere;
  • Gently scrub the silver with a soft, clean brush;
  • Rinse in clean, warm water; and
  • Leave to air dry.

Also, storing silver jewellery in a sealed plastic bag – yes plastic bags work magic here- or airtight box when it is not being worn will keep out the air that causes oxidation.

4. Chemicals, away please

Your jewellery is particularly susceptible to damage from the effects of chemicals present in perfume, hairspray, make-up, nail polish remover, body oils, sun lotion, and deodorant. It’s best not let them touch your fine stylish jewellery.

5. Wear your jewellery

The best and most simple way: wear your jewellery often. The natural oils on your skin helps maintain your jewellery. Your skin will "clean" the silver and gold vermeil jewellery and keep it looking shiny. Just another wonder of the nature and beauty of wearing authentic fine jewellery. Now you know it.

Just to let you know…

A good quality sterling silver, gold plated/ vermeil and rose gold plated/ vermeil should not tarnish if looked after and stored in the right conditions and will last you for years. All good things are worth looking after and your jewellery will certainly pay it back to you and keep you in fine company.
